Accessibility

This is the accesibility statement of the organization Joen Tikkituote Oy

Updated 22 September 2026

This accessibility statement applies to the UEF Webshop online store, including its Finnish- and English-language content and the online shopping process. This statement describes the accessibility status of the service, improvements that have been made, areas that still require verification, and how you can get assistance or provide feedback.

Accessibility status: the online service partially complies with the accessibility requirements. This assessment is based on the inspection material described below and the corrections reported by the website administrator. It has not yet been comprehensively verified that all previously identified deficiencies have been corrected or that the entire purchasing process is accessible.

Service provider and description of the service

Service provider: University of Eastern Finland.
Online store seller and customer service: Joen Tikkituote Oy, Business ID 3150814-9.

In the UEF Webshop, you can browse University of Eastern Finland products, search for and compare products, select product options, and purchase products online. The online store serves consumers as well as businesses and organisations.

  1. Find a product using the menus, product categories or search function. On the product page, you can view the description, images, price and available options.
  2. Select the required options, such as size, and the desired quantity. Add the product to your shopping cart and review the contents of the cart.
  3. Proceed to checkout, enter the requested information and select an available delivery and payment method. Review the order details before confirming your order.

The scope of this statement also includes the online store’s contact and information pages as well as functions related to the shopping process. The accessibility of the ordering and payment stages must be assessed as part of the entire customer journey, including when solutions provided by third-party service providers are used. The separate uefwebshop.com service linked from the website is not included in the assessment material covered by this statement.

Using the service with devices and assistive technologies

The service is accessed through a web browser on a computer, tablet or smartphone. An internet connection is required. Browsing the online store does not require a separate application or a specific device model. Your selected payment method may require an authentication method or application provided by the payment service provider.

You can use your device and browser settings to, for example, enlarge text or use a keyboard and screen reader. The availability of these features depends on the device and software you use. The compatibility of all online store functions with different browser and assistive technology combinations has not been comprehensively verified.

Using a keyboard, you can move between elements on the page with the Tab key and move backwards with Shift + Tab. Links can be opened with the Enter key. The image area on the homepage has been updated so that images can also be changed using the keyboard. If the image area or another function does not work with the tools you use, please contact us using the contact details provided below.

Accessibility requirements

The accessibility of the service is assessed on the basis of the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019) and the applicable requirements of the European standard EN 301 549. For web content, the key criteria are the Level A and AA requirements of the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

This statement also takes into account the additional requirements applicable to e-commerce services provided to consumers, which have applied to services within the scope of the legislation since 28 June 2025. These requirements are laid down in Chapter 3a of the Act on the Provision of Digital Services and Government Decree 179/2023. The additional requirements concern, among other things, describing how the service operates and providing accessibility information concerning products when such information has been supplied.

Accessibility improvements made

According to information provided by the website administrator on 22 September 2026, the following checks and corrections have been made to the service:

  • The contrast of text elements has been checked. The purpose of this review is to ensure that text can be distinguished from its background and to improve readability.
  • The colour contrast of buttons has been corrected. These changes improve the distinction between buttons, their backgrounds and their text.
  • Keyboard operation has been added to the image area. Images can also be browsed using the keyboard.

These measures relate, among other things, to the contrast and keyboard accessibility findings in the inspection report, including WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast and 2.1.1 Keyboard. The description of the corrections is based on information provided by the website administrator. It does not mean that all pages, different element states or assistive technology combinations have been retested.

Identified deficiencies and pending checks

Names of product buttons

During Traficom’s inspection on 12 August 2026, buttons were identified on the homepage and product category pages where the visible text was not included in the programmatically determined accessible name. This finding concerns WCAG requirement 2.5.3 Label in Name.

This concerns the technical naming of buttons. For example, if a button displays the visible text “Add to cart”, its accessible name must include the same text. A mismatch can make it more difficult, particularly for users of voice control, to associate the visible button with the name announced by assistive technology.

Status on 22 September 2026: The completeness of the correction has not yet been verified across all relevant pages and language versions. Correcting button colour contrast alone does not ensure that the accessible name is correct. This issue will remain open until the coverage of the correction has been verified.

If a product card button is difficult to identify or use, you can try opening the product using its product name link and continue from the product page. If you are unable to proceed, customer service can assist you in obtaining product information and continuing the shopping process.

Areas requiring manual assessment

The automated inspection produced uncertain results regarding, for example, the page’s main content and heading structure, bypassing repeated content, visibility of keyboard focus, form error messages and the functionality of enlarged text. An uncertain result does not in itself indicate an accessibility issue. These areas require manual testing.

The 25-page sample included in the inspection report did not include the shopping cart or checkout. Therefore, no comprehensive conclusion can be drawn from the report regarding the accessibility of the shopping cart, checkout, authentication, payment or order confirmation processes. The entire customer journey still needs to be verified using a keyboard and screen reader.

Status of corrections and grounds for exemptions

A completion date for all pending checks has not yet been confirmed. The list of deficiencies and the status of corrections in this statement will be updated based on further assessments. Priority will be given to deficiencies that prevent users from completing tasks or make product selection, ordering or payment difficult.

This statement does not invoke disproportionate burden or a fundamental alteration of the basic nature of the service. The open issues described above are not presented as exemptions permitted by law. The use of an external technical platform is also not considered a general justification for excluding functions from the accessibility assessment.

Compliance with additional e-commerce requirements

The purpose of the service, the stages of the shopping process and the equipment required to use the service are described in this statement. Accessibility has been improved through the contrast and keyboard accessibility changes described above. However, comprehensive verification of the service’s compliance with all applicable accessibility requirements is not yet available.

The online store must provide customers with accessibility information concerning products and services if the party responsible for such information, such as the manufacturer or importer, has supplied it to the online store. Such information must be made available to the customer before a purchase decision is made. The receipt and comprehensive publication of such information have not been assessed in the available technical inspection report.

If you need additional information before placing an order about the usability of a product or whether its features are suitable for your needs, please contact customer service. A general product description or the absence of accessibility information alone cannot be used to determine whether a product is suitable for all individual needs. Further information on the obligations applicable to online stores is available in Traficom’s guidance on service-specific requirements and obligations.

Feedback and alternative ways to receive assistance

You can report an accessibility issue, request further information about the accessibility of the service, or request content in an accessible format suitable for you. You can also contact us if you need assistance obtaining product information or completing a stage of the ordering process.

You may also provide information about the device, browser and assistive technology you were using. Please include your contact details if you would like a response. You do not need to provide information about your health or the cause of a disability. Do not send passwords or payment card information by email.

If necessary, we will agree with you on an appropriate way to provide the information you need or assist you in continuing to use the service. Assistance provided by customer service supplements the online service. It does not remove the obligation to correct accessibility deficiencies in the service.

Processing time for feedback and information requests

If a request for accessible content is extensive, the response period may be up to four weeks. The extended deadline does not apply to ordinary accessibility feedback.

Preparation of the statement and assessment method

This updated statement was prepared and its information reviewed on 22 September 2026.

The assessment is based on Traficom’s simplified accessibility inspection conducted on 12 August 2026, the related technical inspection report, the report interpretation guidance dated 29 May 2026, and guidance issued to the service provider on 12 August 2026. The case number for the guidance is Traficom/12417/12.05.19.03/2026. This update also takes into account the checks and corrections reported by the website administrator on 22 September 2026.

The authority’s inspection covered 25 pages of the Finnish-language website. It was conducted primarily using the automated Salvia tool, whose testing is based on QualWeb software and ACT testing rules related to WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA requirements. The report identified deficiencies relating to contrast, button names and keyboard operation of the scrollable image area.

Automated testing covers only some accessibility requirements. Passing an automated inspection or correcting individual findings does not demonstrate that the entire service is accessible. This update is not based on a new comprehensive external accessibility audit.

Maintaining accessibility

This statement will be updated when changes are made to the service, corrections are implemented or new issues are identified. Its accuracy will be reviewed regularly and at least once a year. Accessibility feedback helps us focus assessments on issues encountered by users.
